JavaScript/jQuery Popover Methods
beginUpdate()
Postpones rendering that can negatively affect performance until the endUpdate() method is called.
The beginUpdate() and endUpdate() methods reduce the number of renders in cases where extra rendering can negatively affect performance.

defaultOptions is a static method that the UI component class supports. The following code demonstrates how to specify default properties for all instances of the Popover UI component in an application executed on the desktop.
jQuery
DevExpress.ui.dxPopover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } });
Angular
import Popover, { Properties } from "devextreme/ui/popover"; // ... export class AppComponent { constructor () { Popover.defaultOptions<Properties>({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); } }
Vue
<template> <div> <DxPopover id="popover1" /> <DxPopover id="popover2" /> </div> </template> <script> import DxPopover from "devextreme-vue/popover"; import Popover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; Popover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); export default { components: { DxPopover } } </script>
React
import dxPopover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; import Popover from "devextreme-react/popover"; dxPopover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); export default function App() { return ( <div> <Popover id="popover1" /> <Popover id="popover2" /> </div> ) }
You can also set rules for multiple device types:
jQuery
const devicesConfig = [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ]; devicesConfig.forEach(deviceConfig => { DevExpress.ui.dxPopover.defaultOptions({ device: deviceConfig, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); });
Angular
import Popover, { Properties } from "devextreme/ui/popover"; // ... export class AppComponent { constructor () { const devicesConfig = [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ]; devicesConfig.forEach(deviceConfig => { Popover.defaultOptions<Properties>({ device: deviceConfig, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); }); } }
Vue
<template> <div> <DxPopover /> </div> </template> <script> import DxPopover from "devextreme-vue/popover"; import Popover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; const devicesConfig = [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ]; devicesConfig.forEach(deviceConfig => { Popover.defaultOptions({ device: deviceConfig, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); }); export default { components: { DxPopover } } </script>
React
import dxPopover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; import Popover from "devextreme-react/popover"; const devicesConfig = [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ]; devicesConfig.forEach(deviceConfig => { dxPopover.defaultOptions({ device: deviceConfig, options: { // Here go the Popover properties } }); }); export default function App() { return ( <div> <Popover /> </div> ) }
dispose()
jQuery
After calling this method, remove the DOM element associated with the UI component:
$("#myPopover").dxPopover("dispose"); $("#myPopover").remove();
Angular
Use conditional rendering instead of this method:
<dx-popover ... *ngIf="condition"> </dx-popover>
Vue
Use conditional rendering instead of this method:
<template> <DxPopover ... v-if="condition"> </DxPopover> </template> <script> import DxPopover from 'devextreme-vue/popover'; export default { components: { DxPopover } } </script>
React
Use conditional rendering instead of this method:
import React from 'react'; import Popover from 'devextreme-react/popover'; function DxPopover(props) { if (!props.shouldRender) { return null; } return ( <Popover ... > </Popover> ); } class App extends React.Component { render() { return ( <DxPopover shouldRender="condition" /> ); } } export default App;
endUpdate()
Refreshes the UI component after a call of the beginUpdate() method.
The beginUpdate() and endUpdate() methods reduce the number of renders in cases where extra rendering can negatively affect performance.

getInstance(element)
getInstance is a static method that the UI component class supports. The following code demonstrates how to get the Popover instance found in an element with the myPopover
ID:
// Modular approach import Popover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; ... let element = document.getElementById("myPopover"); let instance = Popover.getInstance(element) as Popover; // Non-modular approach let element = document.getElementById("myPopover"); let instance = DevExpress.ui.dxPopover.getInstance(element);

hide()
A Promise that is resolved after the UI component is hidden. It is a native Promise or a jQuery.Promise when you use jQuery.

show()
A Promise that is resolved after the UI component is shown. It is a native Promise or a jQuery.Promise when you use jQuery.
show(target)
A Promise that is resolved if the UI component is displayed and rejected otherwise. It is a native Promise or a jQuery.Promise when you use jQuery.
toggle(showing)
A Promise that is resolved with true if the UI component is shown or false if it is hidden. It is a native Promise or a jQuery.Promise when you use jQuery.
You can use the toggle(showing) method instead of the show() and hide() methods. In this case, pass true or false as the method parameter to show or hide the UI component.
The UI component is automatically hidden after the time specified in the displayTime property.
