beginUpdate()
Prevents the widget from refreshing until the endUpdate() method is called.
The beginUpdate() and endUpdate() methods prevent the widget from excessive updates when you are changing multiple widget settings at once. After the beginUpdate() method is called, the widget does not update its UI until the endUpdate() method is called.

defaultOptions(rule)
defaultOptions is a static method that the widget class supports. The following code demonstrates how to specify default options for all instances of the Popover widget in an application executed on the desktop.
jQuery
DevExpress.ui.dxPopover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover options } });
Angular
import Popover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; // ... export class AppComponent { constructor () { Popover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover options } }); } }
Vue
<template> <div> <DxPopover id="popover1" /> <DxPopover id="popover2" /> </div> </template> <script> import DxPopover from "devextreme-vue/popover"; import Popover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; Popover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover options } }); export default { components: { DxPopover } } </script>
React
import React from "react"; import dxPopover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; import Popover from "devextreme-react/popover"; class App extends React.Component { render () { dxPopover.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the Popover options } }) return ( <div> <Popover id="popover1" /> <Popover id="popover2" /> </div> ) } } export default App;
dispose()
After calling this method, remove the DOM element associated with the widget:
$("#myPopover").dxPopover("dispose"); $("#myPopover").remove();
Use this method only if the widget was created with jQuery or pure JavaScript. In Angular, Vue, and React, use conditional rendering:
Angular
<dx-popover ... *ngIf="condition"> </dx-popover>
Vue
<template> <DxPopover ... v-if="condition"> </DxPopover> </template> <script> import DxPopover from 'devextreme-vue/popover'; export default { components: { DxPopover } } </script>
React
import React from 'react'; import Popover from 'devextreme-react/popover'; function DxPopover(props) { if (!props.shouldRender) { return null; } return ( <Popover ... > </Popover> ); } class App extends React.Component { render() { return ( <DxPopover shouldRender="condition" /> ); } } export default App;

getInstance(element)
getInstance is a static method that the widget class supports. The following code demonstrates how to get the Popover instance found in an element with the myPopover
ID:
// Modular approach import Popover from "devextreme/ui/popover"; ... let element = document.getElementById("myPopover"); let instance = Popover.getInstance(element) as Popover; // Non-modular approach let element = document.getElementById("myPopover"); let instance = DevExpress.ui.dxPopover.getInstance(element);
