Angular FileManager Methods
beginUpdate()
Postpones rendering that can negatively affect performance until the endUpdate() method is called.
The beginUpdate() and endUpdate() methods reduce the number of renders in cases where extra rendering can negatively affect performance.

defaultOptions is a static method that the UI component class supports. The following code demonstrates how to specify default properties for all instances of the FileManager UI component in an application executed on the desktop.
jQuery
DevExpress.ui.dxFileManager.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } });
Angular
import FileManager, { Properties } from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; // ... export class AppComponent { constructor () { FileManager.defaultOptions<Properties>({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } }); } }
Vue
<template> <div> <DxFileManager id="fileManager1" /> <DxFileManager id="fileManager2" /> </div> </template> <script> import DxFileManager from "devextreme-vue/file-manager"; import FileManager from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; FileManager.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } }); export default { components: { DxFileManager } } </script>
React
import dxFileManager from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; import FileManager from "devextreme-react/file-manager"; dxFileManager.defaultOptions({ device: { deviceType: "desktop" }, options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } }); export default function App() { return ( <div> <FileManager id="fileManager1" /> <FileManager id="fileManager2" /> </div> ) }
You can also set rules for multiple device types:
jQuery
DevExpress.ui.dxFileManager.defaultOptions({ device: [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ], options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } });
Angular
import FileManager, { Properties } from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; // ... export class AppComponent { constructor () { FileManager.defaultOptions<Properties>({ device: [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ], options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } }); } }
Vue
<template> <div> <DxFileManager id="fileManager1" /> <DxFileManager id="fileManager2" /> </div> </template> <script> import DxFileManager from "devextreme-vue/file-manager"; import FileManager from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; FileManager.defaultOptions({ device: [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ], options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } }); export default { components: { DxFileManager } } </script>
React
import dxFileManager from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; import FileManager from "devextreme-react/file-manager"; dxFileManager.defaultOptions({ device: [ { deviceType: 'desktop' }, { deviceType: 'tablet' }, { deviceType: 'phone' }, ], options: { // Here go the FileManager properties } }); export default function App() { return ( <div> <FileManager id="fileManager1" /> <FileManager id="fileManager2" /> </div> ) }
dispose()
jQuery
After calling this method, remove the DOM element associated with the UI component:
$("#myFileManager").dxFileManager("dispose"); $("#myFileManager").remove();
Angular
Use conditional rendering instead of this method:
<dx-file-manager ... *ngIf="condition"> </dx-file-manager>
Vue
Use conditional rendering instead of this method:
<template> <DxFileManager ... v-if="condition"> </DxFileManager> </template> <script> import DxFileManager from 'devextreme-vue/file-manager'; export default { components: { DxFileManager } } </script>
React
Use conditional rendering instead of this method:
import React from 'react'; import FileManager from 'devextreme-react/file-manager'; function DxFileManager(props) { if (!props.shouldRender) { return null; } return ( <FileManager ... > </FileManager> ); } class App extends React.Component { render() { return ( <DxFileManager shouldRender="condition" /> ); } } export default App;
endUpdate()
Refreshes the UI component after a call of the beginUpdate() method.
The beginUpdate() and endUpdate() methods reduce the number of renders in cases where extra rendering can negatively affect performance.

getCurrentDirectory()
This method returns the following FileManager item's parameters:
- pathInfo: Array<Object> - Information about the item's path.
- parentPath: string - The item's parent path.
- key: string - The item's key.
- relativeName: string - The item's relative name.

- size: number - The item size.
- dateModified: Date - The item's modified date.
- thumbnail: string - The item's thumbnail URL.
- tooltipText: string - The item's tooltip text.
getInstance(element)
getInstance is a static method that the UI component class supports. The following code demonstrates how to get the FileManager instance found in an element with the myFileManager
ID:
// Modular approach import FileManager from "devextreme/ui/file_manager"; ... let element = document.getElementById("myFileManager"); let instance = FileManager.getInstance(element) as FileManager; // Non-modular approach let element = document.getElementById("myFileManager"); let instance = DevExpress.ui.dxFileManager.getInstance(element);

refresh()
A Promise that is resolved after data is loaded. It is a native Promise or a jQuery.Promise when you use jQuery.
The following example illustrates how to use this method:
jQuery
var fileManager = $("#fileManagerContainer").dxFileManager("instance"); //... fileManager.refresh();
Angular
import { Component, ViewChild } from '@angular/core'; import { DxFileManagerModule } from "devextreme-angular"; @Component({ selector: 'app-root', templateUrl: './app.component.html', styleUrls: ['./app.component.css'] }) export class AppComponent { @ViewChild(DxFileManagerComponent, { static: false }) fileManager: DxFileManagerComponent; // Prior to Angular 8 // @ViewChild(DxFileManagerComponent) fileManager: DxFileManagerComponent; yourCustomMethod() { this.fileManager.instance.refresh(); // ... } }
<dx-file-manager id="fileManager"> <!-- ... --> </dx-file-manager>
import { BrowserModule } from '@angular/platform-browser'; import { NgModule } from '@angular/core'; import { AppComponent } from './app.component'; import { DxFileManagerModule } from 'devextreme-angular'; @NgModule({ declarations: [ AppComponent ], imports: [ BrowserModule, DxFileManagerModule ], providers: [ ], bootstrap: [AppComponent] }) export class AppModule { }
Vue
<template> <DxFileManager :ref="fileManagerRef"> </DxFileManager> </template> <script> import 'devextreme/dist/css/dx.light.css'; import { DxFileManager } from 'devextreme-vue/file-manager'; const fileManagerRef = 'fileManager'; export default { components: { DxFileManager }, data() { return { fileManagerRef } }, computed: { fileManager: function() { return this.$refs[fileManagerRef].instance; } }, methods: { yourCustomMethod(){ this.fileManager.refresh(); // ... } } }; </script>
React
import React from 'react'; import 'devextreme/dist/css/dx.light.css'; import FileManager from 'devextreme-react/file-manager'; class App extends React.Component { constructor(props) { super(props); this.fileManagerRef = React.createRef(); this.yourCustomMethod = () => { this.fileManager.refresh(); // ... } } get fileManager() { return this.fileManagerRef.current.instance; } render() { return ( <FileManager ref={this.fileManagerRef} > </FileManager> ); } } export default App;
ASP.NET MVC Controls
@(Html.DevExtreme().FileManager() .ID("fileManager") // ... ) <script type="text/javascript"> function getFileManagerInstance() { return $("#fileManager").dxFileManager("instance"); } function yourCustomMethod() { var fileManagerInstance = getFileManagerInstance(); fileManagerInstance.refresh(); // ... } </script>
ASP.NET Core Controls
@(Html.DevExtreme().FileManager() .ID("fileManager") // ... ) <script type="text/javascript"> function getFileManagerInstance() { return $("#fileManager").dxFileManager("instance"); } function yourCustomMethod() { var fileManagerInstance = getFileManagerInstance(); fileManagerInstance.refresh(); // ... } </script>
registerKeyHandler(key, handler)
A handler. Accepts the keydown event as the argument. It is a EventObject or a jQuery.Event when you use jQuery.
The key argument accepts one of the following values:
- "backspace"
- "tab"
- "enter"
- "escape"
- "pageUp"
- "pageDown"
